2019

Our Story

The Edward Athiyo Foundation was established in 2019 following the passing of Edward Lorika Athiyo, a prominent figure in Karamoja and Ugandan history, in July of that year. He was a distinguished Ugandan public servant, diplomat, and statesman whose career spanned colonial administration, independence negotiations, national leadership, and regional development. He played a pivotal role in securing Karamoja's inclusion in independent Uganda, served as District Commissioner across multiple regions, held ministerial portfolios, and represented Uganda internationally. A strong advocate for sustainable agriculture, trade, mining, and cultural preservation, he championed longterm development in Karamoja through policy reform, infrastructure, and community empowerment initiatives The Foundation aims to carry on the work of the late Edward Athiyo by empowering, training, guiding, and preserving the Karamojong people in Nakale, improving their living conditions and honouring his legacy
